VERITEST COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS REPORT RE-AFFIRMS POLYCOM LEADERSHIP IN VIDEO BRIDGES, SHOWS POLYCOM OUTPERFORMS CODIAN

Von Polycom

Thumb München, Sept. 30, 2005 – Polycom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the leading provider of unified collaborative communications (UCC) solutions, today announced new results of performance testing for multipoint conferencing units (MCUs), the network bridges that integrate voice, data, and video conferencing into an organization’s core communications network. Polycom commissioned VeriTest, the world’s leading independent technology testing organization and a division of Lionbridge (Nasdaq: LIOX), to perform comparative performance analysis of the Polycom MGC™ and the Codian MCU 4210, a new entrant in the video bridge market. As with VeriTest’s last report regarding Polycom MGC performance against Radvision and Tandberg bridges, this competitive performance analysis showed that the industry-leading Polycom MCU offered greater flexibility across three key areas of security, versatility and operational management as compared to the Codian MCU 4210. The test methodology, which focused on real world usage, included a wide spectrum of product capabilities and covered a comprehensive review of feature sets: 1) Security – both for the conference and integral to the systems; 2) Versatility – the ability to transcode diverse protocols and algorithms, data and content-sharing support, continuous presence, conference routing, conference types, resource management and customization; and 3) Operation and Control – both for system management and user control. In addition, real-life case scenarios were used to determine how each product would behave when deployed as the target MCU. In this competitive performance analysis, VeriTest found that the Polycom MGC successfully passed all 63 test cases, compared to 17 for the Codian MCU 4210. The VeriTest report also concluded that the Polycom MGC demonstrated a more complete set of security and authentication capabilities as well as the more powerful administration operation and control features. “No one understands more about the networking of rich media calls than Polycom, and no MCU on the market connects more of the devices and protocols found in today’s mixed media networks and protects investments better than the Polycom MGC line,” said Phil Keenan, senior vice president and general manager of network systems at Polycom. “This core technology asset is why Polycom is leading the integration of video conferencing into next-generation networks with Alcatel, Avaya, Microsoft and Nortel, and why Polycom bridges are at the heart of some of the most demanding real-time heterogeneous networks in the world.” According to the executive summary of the VeriTest report: “The Polycom MCU demonstrated the most complete set of security and authentication, as well as, administration operation and control feature capabilities when compared to the Codian MCU 4210. Based on the results from our user case scenarios, we found that the Polycom offered the largest and most flexible set of options to complete the user cases successfully.” About VeriTest Services from Lionbridge VeriTest, the testing division of Lionbridge Technologies, Inc.
