Milpitas, (Calif.), 15. April 2003. Quantum Corp. (NYSE:DSS), führender Anbieter von Datensicherungssystemen, hat beim zuständigen US-Bezirksgericht (U.S. District Court, Northern District of California) Klage wegen Patentverletztung gegen StorageTek (Storage Technology Corp., NYSE: STK) eingereicht. Quantum wirft StorageTek rechtswidrige Herstellung und Vertrieb von Bandlaufwerken und Bandprodukten in den Vereinigten Staaten vor, die gegen die von Quantum gehaltenen Patente U.S. 5474253 (Dezember 1995) und U.S. 4809110 (Februar 1989) verstoßen. Eine einstweilige Verfügung soll StorageTek den Vertrieb der kritischen Produkte untersagen.
Wir stehen seit mehreren Monaten in Gesprächen mit StorageTek um eine einvernehmliche Lösung zu finden, sagt John Gannon, Präsident von Quantums DLTtape-Gruppe. Leider waren diese Bemühungen nicht erfolgreich, so dass wir keine andere Möglichkeit sehen als wichtige Bestandteile unserer DLTtape-Speicherprodukte und technologien, die unser geistiges Eigentum sind, über den Rechtsweg zu verteidigen und zu schützen.
Quantum ist seit langem als einer der Marktführer und Innovatoren im Bandspeicherbereich etabliert und hält über 100 Patente, die im Zusammenhang mit der Entwicklung der marktführenden DLTtape-Technologie stehen.
