Boasting an extensive portfolio of trailblazing and proven solutions, Knorr-Bremse PowerTech serves the specific needs of an increasingly networked industry. The company’s presence at the Hannover Messe 2016 will showcase converters for energy generation and storage. These converters enable energy from a generator or renewable energy source to be converted into electrical energy, stored or fed into the grid with great stability.

The extremely robust, adaptable, and solution-oriented converters can be customized to meet specific customer specifications thanks to their flexible and modular design: They can be used for converting the energy from wind power to hydropower, for storage systems ranging from batteries to power-to-gas, and for small to very large outputs. The straightforward integration into existing systems and configurations only adds to the devices’ appeal. They also feature integrated active grid compensation to compensate for fluctuations in voltage and frequency during supply times.

Knorr-Bremse PowerTech converters can be used in any applications where electronics are exposed to extreme stresses, such as high temperature fluctuations, significant vibrations, humidity, spray or mechanical impacts. Thanks to their flexible construction, they are suitable for a wide variety of applications – for example, in mining, tunnel boring, oil and gas extraction or in the chemicals industry.

Mains and drive converters from Knorr-Bremse PowerTech enable the creation of high-end test benches for drive components, motors, gears, and transformers. The use of intelligent power modules along with forced air and water cooling, coupled with the compact design using minimal components enables the company to achieve the ultimate in performance. The result: Highly dynamic converters, which even find use in the world of Formula 1, where complete technological processes are tested and simulated with maximum drive dynamics.

Knorr-Bremse PowerTech can draw on global experience for a broad range of applications. The company has been producing electrical systems for the rail industry since 1843. Its integration in the Knorr-Bremse Group means that its development department can now draw on the global group sales team, thereby exploiting valuable synergies. This means it can handle both large-scale production and the manufacture of small volumes – in diverse applications and using its own test facilities.

Knorr-Bremse PowerTech is the merger of leading power supply companies under the umbrella of the Knorr-Bremse Group. More than 500 employees at five sites on four continents work together to pioneer solutions for energy conversion. The Knorr-Bremse PowerTech portfolio includes converter products and electronic equipment for a broad spectrum of rail vehicles as well as energy production, storage, industrial applications and high end dynamic test rig applications.

Knorr-Bremse is the world’s leading manufacturer of braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles, with annual sales totaling almost €6 billion (2015). In over 30 countries, some 25,000 employees develop, manufacture, and service braking, entrance, control, and energy supply systems, HVAC and driver assistance systems, as well as powertrain and transmission control solutions. As a technology leader, the company has been making a crucial contribution to improving safety by road and rail for more than 110 years. Every day, more than a billion people around the world put their trust in systems made by Knorr-Bremse.
