Zinc is a special raw material

Von Swiss Resource Capital AG

To massively reduce the formation of rust, it is enough to have zinc in the environment.

Thumb

Zinc acts in two ways. It forms a patina on the surface, which greatly slows down the corrosion of the zinc itself. And this passive effect is joined by the active effect of the metal. In fact, a local element is formed from zinc and iron in a humid environment. This means that zinc, according to its chemistry, is less noble than iron and gives off electrons. In the process, the iron retains its status, this is a so-called redox reaction, in other words zinc sacrifices itself in favor of the iron. Zinc alloyed with copper produces brass. Zinc was already used in ancient times. Around the middle of the 18th century, zinc was successfully smelted on an industrial scale.

A first zinc smelter existed in Bristol in 1743. The most common and important ores to extract zinc are the zinc sulfide ores. These must be converted into zinc oxide. Large zinc deposits can be found in North America, China, Peru, Australia, Mexico, South Africa or Kazakhstan. Zinc is used for steel and iron parts and especially in the automotive industry. Global zinc demand is forecast to increase by an estimated 2.3 percent year-on-year in 2022. Currently, high energy prices are causing problems for the industry, and production cuts and shutdowns are already taking place. To invest in the high-performance material zinc, it is worth taking a look at companies that have the sought-after metal in their projects, such as Griffin Mining or Osisko Metals.

Griffin Mining - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIl2fiOhNks - owns an interest (88.8 percent) in the producing Caijiaying mine in China, making it the largest zinc producer in the country.

Osisko Metals - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1J1C-3t2iA - is working on zinc projects in the Northwest Territories at the Pine Point Zinc Mining Camp and the Bathurst Mining Camp.
