New times - new challenges

Von Swiss Resource Capital AG

There is a struggle for our energy supply and some industries fear supply bottlenecks for raw materials.

Thumb

If first the pandemic changed our lives, now it is the Ukraine-Russia war that is taking its toll in many ways. As recently as last year, the automotive industry was posting record profits. This was despite temporary supply bottlenecks for memory chips. At present, there is even a threat of supply shortfalls, as a large quantity of the cable harnesses that are indispensable for the automotive sector comes from Ukraine. And short-term procurement from other sources appears to be very difficult. Let's hope that this does not stifle the booming electromobility sector. Otherwise, the chances of making the transition to sustainable mobility are not bad.

Lithium, cobalt, manganese and nickel are needed for the lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles. On the supply side, lithium and cobalt in particular could become scarce. Good thing there are established companies that have cobalt in the ground, for example. Mawson Gold's - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTUjNf8p8uM - prospective Rajapalot property in Finland has gold and cobalt. Opinions differ as to whether nuclear power, which now seems to be becoming an issue again in this country in the wake of the war, is sustainable. But the fact is that the enormous demand for energy can hardly be met without nuclear power plants. This applies worldwide, especially in view of the growing world population.

To ensure a sufficient energy supply, uranium is needed as a raw material. By the way, in 2020, around 20 percent of the uranium consumed in the EU was imported from Russia. Uranium is also available in Canada, for example in Labrador Uranium's - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw25CP21Ifs - uranium projects. The Notakwanon and CMB projects are located on productive land in Labrador and cover an area of approximately 140,000 hectares.
