This applies not only to China, where megacities are springing up like mushrooms. Estimates by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs list the largest cities in 2035. They are Delhi, Tokyo and Shanghai. Delhi will have a population of around 43 million, a gigantic figure. Currently, most people live in Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Bangkok and Cairo. According to forecasts, two-thirds of the world's population will live in cities by 2050. With the enormous growth of cities, a wide range of challenges will have to be mastered. Individual transportation and combustion engines will then be more a thing of the past. Future urban mobility will be dominated by electric vehicles.

This will be accompanied by intelligent traffic guidance systems. Comprehensive networking will make it possible to call up individual driving recommendations to suit the traffic situation at any given time. This could then also advance autonomous driving, on which major automakers are already working. Artificial intelligence will play a role in this. After all, in the smart city, traffic can be regulated and monitored, and traffic jams should then be a thing of the past. Not only will there be an increase in the number of new large cities, but also in the amount of motor vehicles. Electric cars can counteract air pollution. This development is made possible by the use of raw materials such as lithium in the batteries of electric vehicles.
