Die beliebte deutsche Bilddatenbank und Foto-Community aboutpixel expandiert. Alle Inhalte der Seite sind sind nun auch auf Englisch verfügbar - damit öffnet sich ap dem weltweiten Markt und hofft auf zahlreiche neue User und einen Zuwachs an qualitativ hochwertigen Aufnahmen aus aller Welt.
"Die Internationalisierung von ap war der nächste logische Schritt", sagt Andreas Dittberner, der das Portal 2003 gründete, damals noch unter anderem Namen und als Userprojekt bei Gulli Board. 18 Monate später wurde aboutpixel eigenständig. Heute sind rund 110.000 Mitglieder angemeldet, eine große aktive Userschaft tauscht sich regelmäßig auf den ap-Seiten über Themen rund um Fotografie, Kameras, Technik und Kunst aus.
Im Oktober 2009 wurde aboutpixel bereits einem vollständigen Relaunch unterzogen. "Wir haben die Seite den Gegebenheiten des Web 2.0 angepasst", so Gründer Dittberner. Design und Funktionen seien grundlegend überarbeitet und verbessert worden. Nun folgte der nächste Schritt in die Zukunft: Alle Elemente der Seite sind fortan nicht nur auf Deutsch sondern auch auf Englisch vorhanden. "Wir freuen uns auf Fotobegeisterte aus der ganzen Welt", sagt Andreas Dittberner.
Auch der ap-Blog, in dem regelmäßig über Foto-Themen diskutiert wird, steht den englischsprachigen Usern zur Verfügung. "Unseren Blog wollen wir Stück für Stück ausbauen", kündigt Andreas Dittberner an. Natürlich können die neuen User - ebenso wie die deutschen Mitglieder - mit ihren hochgeladenen Fotos ebenfalls bares Geld verdienen.
Auch die Foto-Contests, die auf aboutpixel.de regelmäßig veranstaltet werden, stehen allen Usern offen. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Printstudio myooge.com gibt es derzeit Gutscheine für Leinwanddrucke zu gewinnen. Das Motto des Wettbewerbs lautet "work" - gesucht werden Bilder vom Arbeitsplatz, von Bauarbeitern und anderen Arbeitsstätten.
Die Registrierung bei aboutpixel ist kostenlos. Die Kaufabwicklung der Bilder erfolgt über ein internes Währungssystem. Jeden Tag erhalten die User eine bestimmte Anzahl an Credits gutgeschrieben, für Foto-Uploads gibt es ebenfalls Gutschriften. Mit ap-Bildern können auch gute Geschäfte gemacht werden. Ausgewählte Bilder sind mit "erweiterter Lizenz" erhältlich und können gewerblich weitervertrieben oder ohne Nennung der Bildlizenz verwendet werden.

The popular Germany-based picture database and photo community aboutpixel has entered the English market. The entire portal is now available in the English language. Thus, ap is opening itself for the English-speaking photo enthusiasts around the globe, hoping for growth in usership and even more quality photos.
ap founder Andreas Dittberner called aboutpixel's internationalization "the next logical step." Dittberner founded the photo portal back in 2003, originally as a user project at gulli board. One and a half years after it was founded, aboutpixel.com became an independent site. Roughly 7 years later, ap has about 110,000 registered users, with a broad variety of active users using the pages to share news and opinions on photography, cameras, technical equipment, and photo art.
In October 2009, the founders relaunched aboutpixel.com after a complete redesign and with many new features as well as a novel credit system. "We adjusted the site to the Web 2.0 era," says founder Andreas Dittberner about the relaunch. Now the next step into the community's future has been taken: All elements of the portal and navigation have been made available in English, thus enabling international users to make use of the great variety of quality shots and to contribute to the community that has already established a firm stance in the German photo scene. "We look forward to welcoming photo enthusiasts from around the world," says Dittberner.
ap has its own blog too, embodied in the portal, where photo topics are being discussed and users are informed about novelties on the pages. All entries will now be posted in English too. "We want to continue expanding our blog step by step", announces Andreas Dittberner. International users are - just like German members - able to earn real money with their uploaded pictures. The photographers are credited for each download.
Photo contests are being held at aboutpixel.de on a regular basis - with international users invited to take part. Currently, ap cooperates with the print studio myooge.com and awards the winners of the competition with vouchers for canvas photo prints. The theme of the contest running through August 31 is "work" - images from the office surroundings, construction workers or other typical working shots are eligible for participation.
Registration with aboutpixel.com is free. Images can be acquired through an internal currency system. Each user receives a certain number of "ap credits" each day that can be used for image purchase. Photo uploads are credited as well. Photographers can make money with their photo uploads once images start being downloaded by other users. Select images are available with an "extended license", meaning they can be used without author attribution or on commercial products like hats, mugs, and the like.
