A few months ago, Sophie (19) and Mira (22) emigrated to Paraguay with their father (67), a former tax consultant from Cologne. He was fed up with the German red tape and dreamed of sunshine, freedom, and a life without rules.
But fate had other plans: His last visit to his old homeland was unfortunately also the place of his death. Papa Michael left his daughters not only memories, but also a domain that he had once registered with much passion.
Tragic end in Berlin

During his last visit to his old homeland in July 2025, the former tax consultant Michael S. (67 †) from Cologne was the victim of a brutal knife attack in Berlin, in the immediate vicinity of the capital Berlin’s main train station.
“It was a shock when we exchanged messages with our dad that morning. He wanted to meet old friends in Potsdam and then fly to Madrid the next morning, from there back to Asunción. However, we suddenly stopped receiving messages and waited in vain for our father at the airport the next day. Only four days later did we receive a brief message from an acquaintance of my father that Dad had apparently been the victim of a knife attack.”
...not far from the Berlin Reichstag, Sophie and Mira suddenly became orphans...
Both have tears in their eyes. Mira sighs: “Dad always said: If you’re going to pay taxes, at least pay them with a view of the palm trees.” – Mira, smiling wistfully. Sophie remembers her father’s affinity for Potsdam and Berlin. He loved the museums and art scene along the Havel River.
