Juni 2006 Die ETX® 3.0 Gemeinde wächst rapide: Insgesamt neun führende und global agierende Hersteller unterstützen nun die von Kontron initiierte neue 3.0 Spezifikation des weltweit meistverkauften und allumfassend praxisvalidierten Computer-on-Module-Standards ETX®. Die jüngsten Mitglieder der ETX Industrial Group, die ETX 3.0 unterstützen, sind Arbor, Axiomtek und Blue Chip Technology. MSC, Evalue, Adlink, Seco and Aaeon zählen zu den ersten Firmen, die die von Kontron initiierte 3.0 Spezifikation implementierten. Und auch noch weitere Hersteller planen die Umsetzung von ETX 3.0. Gegenüber den vorherigen Spezifikationen bietet ETX 3.0 zusätzlich 2x Serial ATA, ohne die gegebenen Pins des ETX-Steckverbinders zu ändern. Die neuen Module sind damit 100 % Pin-zu-Pin abwärtskompatibel zu den früheren Versionen. Dies sichert den langfristigen Support für zahlreiche Embedded-Anwendungen, die auf den älteren, bereits hochintegrierten COMs basieren und in der Automatisierung, Medizintechnik, im Gaming- und Entertainmentbereich sowie in der Verteidigungs- und Luftfahrttechnik eingesetzt werden. Die 100-%ige Rückwärtskompatibilität der Pins stellt sicher, dass bereits existierende ETX-Carrierboards keine Änderungen benötigen. Ein Exemplar der ETX 3.0-Spezifikation ist bei der zuständigen Kontron-Niederlassung oder über die Website der ETX Industrial Group (www.etx-ig.org) zu beziehen. ETX 3.0 bringt einen deutlichen Mehrwert für den im Embedded-Markt bedeutendsten Computer-on-Module-Standard ETX. Daher ist abzusehen, dass bald weitere Hersteller den ETX 3.0 Standard unterstützen werden.
