A nuclear power plant on the moon

Von Swiss Resource Capital AG

It is well known how important nuclear energy is in the energy mix. Even on the moon, a nuclear power plant could now be built.

It is the well-known luxury car brand Rolls-Royce that is planning a small nuclear power plant on the moon on behalf of the British space agency. Because this would be a fine thing for a permanent base on the moon. The base could then be supplied with electricity independently of sunlight. The so-called Small Modulator Reactors (SMR), small mini power plants, are being traded as an important instrument for the future supply of nuclear energy. Many countries know how important it is to supply energy and achieve climate goals, and they are promoting nuclear power. Reactor technologies are also subject to constant progress. Today, power plants can be built and also operated more cost-effectively. Smaller plant sizes, faster construction times, more flexible siting, and the ability to use nuclear waste as fuel are all on the nuclear community's radar. This type of low-carbon power generation will significantly increase uranium demand. McKinsey projects an additional 400 to 800 GW will be needed. Up to 20 percent of future electricity demand could be met by nuclear by 2050. Technical innovations and construction costs will have a significant impact on this.

In recent years, growth in renewable energies has exceeded forecasts. The same could occur in the nuclear energy sector. In addition to the USA and France, countries focusing on this type of energy production include the United Kingdom, which is supporting nuclear projects with $145 million. South Korea is also looking to increase its capacity. Investors are now eyeing uranium companies such as IsoEnergy and Labrador Uranium.

In the Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan, famous for high-grade uranium deposits, IsoEnergy - https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/isoenergy-winter-2023-drill-program-at-larocque-east-and-hawk-with-new-vp-of-exploration/ - has promising uranium projects.

In Labrador, in the Central Mineral Belt, Labrador Uranium - https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/labrador-uranium-cad-73-million-exploration-program-in-2023-at-different-areas/ - has high-grade and large properties. In addition, there is a uranium project in Nunavut.
