The number of e-cars is growing - lithium is in demand

Von Swiss Resource Capital AG

The number of electric cars is increasing worldwide. Battery raw materials such as lithium are in high demand.

Thumb

Almost 100,000 new electric cars were registered in Germany in the first quarter of 2023. Last year, around 470,000 pure electric vehicles were registered, a record figure. Production capacities in Germany are increasing, as is demand from abroad. Therefore, it is expected that 50 percent more electric cars will be built in Germany in 2023, compared to the previous year. Still, some here have concerns about who is liable if an e-car catches fire. But this is rarely the case, according to statistics about as often as with combustion cars. And if an e-car owner negligently causes damage to a neighbor's home, for example, then personal liability insurance will pay. If the "crime scene" was a parking space in an underground garage, then the building insurance is called upon.

Electric vehicle batteries are almost always based on lithium-ion technology. Research is being conducted into batteries with other raw materials, but there is still no breakthrough in sight. This is because energy density suffers when other materials are used for the batteries. So, lithium will remain the non plus ultra for e-cars for a long time to come.

Li-Metal - https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/li-metal-virtual-roadshow-investor-presentation/ -, for example, is responsible for the further development of lithium-ion technology. Lithium anodes and lithium metal will be able to be produced cost-effectively and in large quantities thanks to Li-Metal's innovations. This has already been proven at the company's anode pilot plant in New York.

Gama Explorations - https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/gama-explorations-exploration-on-3-projects-in-canada-for-battery-metals/ - takes care of the supply of the necessary lithium, as well as nickel and copper for the batteries. The portfolio includes a lithium project in the Northwest Territories, a nickel-copper project in Quebec and a copper-gold project in British Columbia.
