Firmware Engineer (m/w/d) : Gelsenkirchen

We seek a talented and enthusiastic Firmware Engineer to join our team of industry leading experts developing cutting edge downhole drilling systems for Oil and Gas exploration. These systems operate in some of the harshest environments known to man, working tirelessly at the extremes of temperature, pressure, shock and vibration to steer the wellbore to a target many miles below the Earths surface.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design, test and deploy embedded code for rotary steerable control, navigation and communication systems
• Support development of software tools to communicate to and test rotary steerable drilling systems
• Advise Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams on system architecture and hardware specifications
• Analyze system performance during and after field use
• Troubleshoot firmware and electrical issues identified during lab testing and field operation
• Compile engineering documentation and communicate to internal and external resources
• Support in the publication of Technical Papers and Patents
• Mentor junior Engineers
• Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
• Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Physics - Essential. 
• 5+ years of experience as Firmware Engineer - Desirable. 
• Familiarity with hardware troubleshooting procedures and tools, scopes, logic analyzers, etc. - Essential. 
• Experience in developing closed-loop control systems - Desirable. 
• Experience with electronic DC motor control - Desirable. 
• Experience working with downhole drilling tools - Desirable.
