BayWa r.e. Projects España S.L.U. – a wholly-owned subsidiary of BayWa r.e. AG – is responsible for the development, structuring and execution of utility-scale wind and solar energy projects in Spain & Portugal.

 About the role

Due to our dynamic growth particularly in new markets in the EMEA region, we are expanding our team and are currently looking for a Grid Engineer EMEA (m/f/d). This position can be located in our headquarters in Munich, or in one of our other European offices e.g. in Madrid, Milano, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Berlin, Athens, Freiburg, etc. Mobile working from home is also an option.
 

What You Will Do

• You will support our local grid teams in the successful delivery of the grid connection high voltage package for Onshore Wind, Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage projects through their lifecycle (origination, development, tender, execution and commissioning)
• You will take on the successful delivery of the grid connection in collaboration with local consultants and identify and manage local requirements and develop an efficient grid setup on the engineering side for new markets
• You will liaise with project development team to lead and coordinate grid interconnection requirements and for estimation of project CAPEX, OPEX and time scheduling;
• You will develop and build relationships with external clients, partners, DNO’s, TSO’s, grid consultancies and contractors;
• You will carry out a cost/benefit analysis and check the compliance with Engineering Technical Specifications and with DNO’s, TSO’s, local or international standards;
• You will elaborate technical due diligence for pipeline acquisition and support to project management;
• You will be in charge of preliminary design/concept of substation and definition of the substation main items;
• You will manage the delivery of works being undertaken by electrical and high voltage grid connection contractors and consultants;
• You will define and optimize power transformers according to plant design / grid codes / DNO or TSO requirements;
• You will elaborate construction design of substation for building permit application;
• You will be in charge of the main technical interface for all substation/evacuation line related topic ( EPC, PPC, SCADA, control center, external certification companies) and its coordination.
• You will be responsible for plant certification and follow up the inverter and PPC certification processes according to the location;
• You will prepare commissioning documentation (Commissioning protocol and Energization procedure);
• You will identify and mitigate project risks, advise the business on an ongoing basis about existing and anticipated grid – related liabilities and costs;
• You will collaborate with other IPP/developers to agree the optimal and most preferred solution when sharing grid infrastructure;

Your Profile

• Educational and professional background in engineering, especially electrical engineering
• Ability to deliver substations conceptual design using CAD tools
• Extensive experience in high voltage infrastructure, including substations, overhead lines and underground cables, for voltage levels 45 kV up to 220 kV (400 kV desirable).
• Sound knowledge of MV switchgear panels and MV systems
• Comprehensive knowledge of relevant EN and IEC standards
• Sound knowledge of grid code compliance of PV/wind plants
• Experience in Power System Studies and in protection and control (desirable)
• Structured way of working, are well organized and have good time management skills
• Fluent in business English; German is a plus
• Enjoy working in an international and digital environment
• Proficient with MS Office
