Lead Technical Specialist, Risk Assessment (m/w/d)

Role purpose

Contribute day-to-day specialist knowledge within their discipline and co-ordinate risk-based projects to provide focused support to internal and external clients, as part of LR’s global network of risk assessment specialists. Determine solutions for problems, within their discipline, where the parameters are not well defined and where previous experience does not provide any precedent.

You will:

• In-line with direction from the GHoT for Risk Assessment, advise colleagues, regulators and industry on LR’s Risk Based Certification (RBC) process - used to certify designs where risk assessment is used as part of safety justifications for classification.
• In-line with direction from the GHoT for Risk Assessment, support TSO colleagues and surveyors (across all regions) in understanding the implementation, need and benefits of the RBC process.
• In-line with direction from the GHoT for Risk Assessment, support TSO colleagues and surveyors (across all regions) by co-ordinating the RBC process for key projects; ensuring appropriate technical input and review at each RBC stage.
• In-line with direction from the GHoT for Risk Assessment, support TSO colleagues and surveyors (across all regions) by actively managing the RBC Actions Register (within LR); and with colleagues, seek solutions to close-out actions to the satisfaction of LR, flag and the client.
• Determine and/or advise on appropriate risk assessment approaches across LR’s maritime activities.
• Assist with development of rules on alternative fuels and new technologies.
• Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
• Mentor/coach other employees, as appropriate, to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
• Make recommendations based on internal/external client feedback to assist in service delivery improvement and to help build the business.
• Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.

You will need:

• A degree or master’s/doctorate equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of three years’ programme).
• Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
• Chartered Engineer status (preferrable).
• Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
• Knowledge of risk assessment techniques/process safety, including extensive experience of its application within the maritime, offshore and/or transport sectors.
