The smallest country of Africa is The Gambia
For us as travel journalists operating worldwide, it was very exciting to find out what the population of this friendly country will be like in 2025. Aisha Faal as a Co-author of this article says:
"Gambia is certainly the country with the best development opportunities in tourism, because the security situation is very relaxed and Gambians are very friendly people. Here, you are still welcomed with open arms – and the people are happy to see us holidaymakers. Age is also valued very differently here; older people are treated with respect."
Kartong in Gambia
Kartong and several beautiful and secluded eco-lodges are located in the Kombo South District in the West Coast Region at the southern tip of the south-western coast of Gambia in West Africa. The rural settlement is located on Kombo Coastal Road, near its end and close to the international border with Senegal, which is marked by the Allahein River (San Pedro River).
Kartong in the south of the country
Kartong is a multi-ethnic village community consisting mainly of Mandinka, followed by Jola and other minority tribes such as Karoninka and Balanta. The village has about 5,500 inhabitants, is located about 60 km from the capital Banjul and is one of the smallest and oldest settlements in Kombo South.

Boboi Beach Resort in Kartong opened 25 years ago
Briton David Crowford had already fallen in love with Gambia when only a few tourists visited the country. He married a woman from Kartong and shortly afterwards seized the opportunity to purchase a unique beachfront property. This idyllic location is only 350 metres away from the quiet (but well-developed) Coastal Road, which connects the capital with southern Gambia and Senegal.
Step by step ..
The beginnings were modest: bushes were trimmed and magnificent palm trees were left standing. The first guests rented tents, and after a few years, the first five African round huts were added and occupancy boomed after the Coastal Road was brought up to its current good condition in 2004. Gradually, a few “tree houses” were added, followed by more bungalows. One of the special features of the resort is its self-sufficiency: solar energy is the only source of power, and holidaymakers find themselves surrounded by nature, far away from the noise of cities such as Banjul or Senegambia.

She was born in Mauritania, and mentioned: ‘For me, this seclusion and tranquillity and the beautiful beach are absolutely relaxing. I borrowed a book at the resort’s library ‘ON THE EDGE OF INCREDIBLE’ and besides writing and photoshooting I could relax here. I even left my mobile phone in the bungalow, hahaha…’
Buba explains in this interview, why holidaymakers love to stay here
Interview with Buba: we learn that most of the resort’s guests come from England, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Spain. Many holidaymakers stay for weeks, some even from November to March.The reasons are obvious, explains Buba:

The facilities will be among the best in the entire region of southern Gambia. We are also planning to engage in organic farming and will plant mango trees, papaya trees and more along these lines. In the medium term, we want our guests to be largely supplied with our own organic-quality fruit. We have vitamin D in abundance, plus healthy food and almost always blue skies. What more could you want?”
How much cost a night at Boboi Beach Resort?
A night in a tree house costs from 600 dalasi ($ 12) plus breakfast. A night in a sea bungalow costs $ 40 for two people, including breakfast. It is particularly good value for holidaymakers who want to stay for at least four weeks. The monthly rate is $ 23 per night. Longer stays are even cheaper.‘ Buba Jammeh says: ’Since the heating in Europe can stay off, holidaymakers who want to experience a whole new kind of winter with us can save a lot of money.”

Das ist wirklich ein interessanter Beitrag über ein Land, dass sie bisher noch überhaupt nicht auf dem Schirm hatte und auch die junge Dame die dort präsentiert, finde ich sehr sympathisch.... Was kostet es diese junge Frau als reisebegleitung für eine Gruppe einzubuchen?
